Sustainable Investment
Sustainable Investment is an investment strategy that aims for solid financial returns while at the same time taking into account companies' environmental, social and governance performance. At Storebrand we seek to avoid investing in companies that employ unethical practices and to influence all companies to make constant improvements. To achieve this we have introduced Storebrand's Minimumstandard for Sustainable Investments.
Storebrand Minimumstandard
We avoid investing in companies that are involved in- Serious human rights violations
- Grand corruption
- Serious climate and environmental damage
- The production of Cluster munitions, Landmines or Nuclear weapons
- The production of tobacco
In addition we avoid investing in companies that are among the worst environmental, social and governance (ESG) performers in high risk industries, or in companies that take inadequate climate measures in high emissions industries.
Storebrand's Minimumstandard applies to all funds and portfolios. As of Q4 2011, 96 companies were excluded from investments at Storebrand.
Regarding Government Bonds Storebrand shall invest in bonds from countries that have in place elementary institutions to prevent corruption, fulfill basic social and political rights and contribute to maintaining international peace and security.
Since our first experience with Environmental Investments in 1995, our Sustainable Investment team has developed solid analytical methods to identify the best performing companies . The team consists of 10 dedicated professionals, each an expert in their respective field.
Our goal is to achieve best possible financial returns but not at any price. In our experience sustainable investment standards do not reduce returns.
